Create a charming display area in your home by DIY'ing these simple build Triangle Display Shelves, complete with hanging photo strings to display all your friends, family + passions!
1 X 12 X 8 rough pine (ripped into 1X6)
*You can have this done at your local hardware store!
A: (3) 16 inch pieces
B: (3) 14 inch pieces
C: (3) 10 inch pieces
1) CUT YOUR WOOD TO SIZE
Cut 3 pieces of wood at the same length to create each triangle. We made ours 16 inch, 14 inch and 10 inch.
Use a miter saw to cut the ends at a 33 degree angle. Each piece should have angled cuts facing the opposite direction.
2) DOES IT TRIANGLE?
Arrange the cuts and stagger them counter clockwise.
3) STICK TOGETHER AND WE'LL BE ALRIGHT
Use wood glue along the joining edges.
4) STUCK TO ME
Once the glue has set a bit, hold them steady and use a brad nail and 1 1/2” nails to secure them at all corners. Angle the brad nailer so they embed into the wood on each side without poking out the sides.
If you don't have a brad nailer, you can simply use a drill and wood screws. *Pre-drill your holes first!
5) A DIY CONCEALER
Apply wood filler to any small gaps. Let dry.
6) SMOOTH BABY SMOOTH
Sand down with a hand sander.
7) ADD LIFE WITH COLOR
Apply dry brush technique with chalk paint to each pyramid using a wax brush.
To dry brush, simply dip the wax brush into the paint, remove as much excess paint on the brush as you can (i like to dab it onto a separate surface or you can let the paint dry a bit on the brush), and then apply the paint brush in swift motions leaving some of the wood exposed.
8) DON'T FORGET YOUR FRIENDS
Dab white chalk paint to small clothes pins. Let dry.
9) PHOTO HANGING ART
Cut 9 pieces of yarn (vary the colors), 2 ft in length for each pyramid.
Braid 3 pieces at a time to create three strings per triangle.
10) A HOLY EVENT
Using a 3/16” bit, drill 3 small holes 1” inward from the back underside edge of each triangle. Make the holes big enough to thread a piece of yarn through.
11) HOLD OF FOR DEAR LIFE
Tie off yarn with small holes - dap a spot of glue onto the yarn knot so the yarn will hold tight.
12) WHAT A GEM
Attach gemstones to the end of the yarn with a small knot.
13) PHOTO PERFECTION
Attach the clothes pins onto the yarn to hang photos.
Voila! Add your favorite plants and gems to the shelves all while having a place to display all your favorite photos!
